For many residents the array of educational opportunities in a given week rivals the choices in their high school or college days. Artistic passions are ignited through art appreciation classes and hands-on guidance in drawing, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry-making and mosaics. A horticulturist expands knowledge of gardening and helps residents with plants they can maintain in their apartment. Residents can learn Spanish, watch history slide shows, take a photography class or sharpen technological skills with computer classes.
A vivid illustration of the initiative taken by staff to appeal to the mind and soul is “Bird Tales.” Created in partnership with the Audubon Society, the award-winning program is twofold: It gives residents a deep appreciation of various kinds of birds, and it uses a variety of plantings around the facility’s windows to attract an array of birds throughout the year.
