Wilton Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation is pleased to have Alexandra (Ali) Paye as our Therapeutic Recreation Director. A Board-Certified Art Therapist with a Master of Science in Art Therapy, Ali is licensed in New York State as a Creative Arts Therapist.
Ali has been a public servant for most of her career. She worked at Nottoway Correctional Center in Burkeville, Virginia as a psychologist and as the Commonwealth of Virginia’s first and only art therapist. Several art therapy groups were developed by Ms. Paye specifically for the Virginia Department of Corrections’ offenders. She often presented case studies in art therapy at the Department of Corrections’ annual Mental Health Conference to statewide employees.
At the Bronx Psychiatric Center Ali was the Senior Recreation Therapist leading a team of volunteers and therapists for two years. At Bronx Psychiatric Ali conducted art therapy groups on an acute inpatient psychiatric unit. She maintains the skill set to manage crisis situations involving aggressive patients and has provided crisis intervention to inmates in a prison setting as well. Ms. Paye’s understanding of an extensive range of cognition levels makes her the perfect person to guide a community with broad needs from our 65-bed dementia care community to our community seeking physical rehabilitation on the short-term unit.
Ali will continue to enhance lives through the use of creative arts therapies and other modalities here on the campus of care. Her ability to maintain an individual’s dignity while growing through therapy is an enormous asset to Wilton Meadows. Her goal is to provide a wide range of therapeutic recreation programs to our residents and improve their quality of life through this exploration.
